In case I have to drop my bag and run, I have some basic essentials on a belt which is on my person at all times.Ive read tons of threads on the building of BOBs to help me understand what i needed.Ive also been camping for the majority of my life (which also hasnt been too long ), so Id like believe Im on the right track.
Some items i added after the pictures: Sharpie Toilet Paper Some Items i know i need: A multi-tool (i only use the pliers on these things so i might just pack pliers) A sleeping bag (might just get the AMK Bivy 2.0) A water bladder (for on the go hydration) And a bigger bag (im pushing it with the 2.4k cubes this bag has) (apologies in advance for the poor lighting) Heres the bag loaded up and ready to go, I still have to find the best way to attach the tarp to the outside of the bag. The shovel can attach to the outside or go in the front pocket. Heres everything laid out (minus shovel and tarp) The two zippered pouches are a FAK and a Food kit the big green bag is a Seal Line MACS sack. A few pairs of merino socks, both the hiking, and the cold weather kind. And under armor type base layer (It gets hot in the desert), and regular underwear. I guess you could call this the PPE portion of my bag (not much but its better than nothing). The water and the food kit (Green pouch holds everything except the water bottle) i live in the desert, carrying a lot of water is a priority since i will be less likely to find a stream so yes, i do need 2 nalgenes. Ive practiced the scout fire with these and it works just fine. First aid (also supplemented by a Trauma kit) ziploc bag has tons of assorted boo boo items (every type of bandaid known to man, alcohol pads, antiseptic pads, mole skin, etc) the the thicker ziploc bag has basic meds (Aspirin, Pepto Bismol, Immodium, Emergen-C, Nyquil, Advil, etc.) and stacks of 4x4s, anti stick Teflas, and a 5x9 ABD Trauma kit Scissors, Olaes bandage, Primed Compressed gauze, nitrile gloves, 2 inch durapore, tournikwik, compression bandage. Fire kit (water proof container, because i dont fuck with my fire) Firesteel, lots of fatwood, steel wool, alcohol pad, PJCB, candles, mini bic, matches) Hygiene kit large blaze orange microfiber towel in stuff sack, a little bit of Bag Balm in a blue container, and the rest, you get the idea. Electronics kit MIOX, spare salt and batteries for it Surefire E1L Sony AMFM radio Princeton Tec Fuel 4 Smiths Sharpening stone and a sewing kit Assorted Items 150 feet of PCord Deck of cards RIR Notepad 2 contractor bags 2 trash can liners (basically the same thing but clear) 5 ziploc 1 quart freezer bags Pencil AMK HeatSheets Duct Tape And im still trying to figure out a good way to carry these spare cash, USB Drive, and an old ID Knife and knife kit ESEE 4 Molle back, and an Alox Pioneer as a Neck Knife Knife kit-should i venture from my pack, id like to have some essentials on me. Mine is just double-layer ziplock bags with taped seams. I may consider adding a small waterproof container to mine and having something to start a fire in it. Concerns: What are the CR123 batteries for The SureFire E1L takes AA. Is it a displacement bag ie tornada bearing down on your home grab the bag and go Is it an INCH bag ie yellowstone erupts and dumps 4 feet of ash on your property so you decide to leave Is it a bag to get you to your Bug Out Location ie SHTF and you decide to head to your pre-determined Bug Out Location. If you have a Bug Out Location, how far away is it How long will it take you to get there on foot Will you be crossing urbansuburban areas to get there Will you be in the wilderness to get there Will you be crossing the desert to get there Will you be following a water source ie river to get there Will you be driving there How long do you want to spend getting where you are going Criticisms or more concerns: What will you be eating I see a mess kit, but no calories to consume. What will you be cooking on the paint thingy How do you intend to acquire this nutrition Do you have the skills and tools and fitness to acquire calories No firearm ----- Just some questions that need answering before advice is given. I have 10,000 calories in my bag, and I am 11 nights away from my Bug Out Location on foot at average speed. I will be traveling fast but have accounted for unexpected delays given a scenario that would force me to evac on foot. I am close to the coast and plenty of tidal waterways, so I have some fishing tackle just in case. While I am in an arid dry country, I can easily find fresh water to purify so I opted for just one water bottle and a water bladder, total of 4L carrying capacity. Depending on season and level of drought, I can augment with an extra 5L compressible water jug. Its generally always warm here and dry wood is easy to locate with a basic fixed blade, so my need for warmth is low hence a basic solo tent and thin sleeping pad.
